Animation in Storytelling - PuppetPals
In this section, we will highlight tools that facilitate storytelling through animation. While more and more tools are being introduced everyday, in this session, we will focus on PuppetPals and PuppetPals2 -- digital tools which can be used to both inspire students and share their work. Each of these three tools uses animation as the main vehicle to tell the students' story. Students develop storyboards and dialogue on their own and use the tools to animate their choice of stock-characters, directing their movement, speech, and contexts.
Kids of all ages are interested in developing and implementing digital animations to convey their stories. Unfortunately, up until recently, this task was simply too difficult to do because of the programming expertise needed. PuppetPals and its sister app PuppetPals 2 have simplified the animation process to enable the youngest/most inexperienced student to develop high quality animations that they can share. Below is a sample that was created with in just a few minutes.

Here the PuppetPals 2 app is used to create a dynamic way for a student to present information learned about Catalonia and Aragon. Although there is a free version of PuppetPals and PuppetPals 2 available, the premium version (4.99) unlocks all backgrounds and character possibilities.
